The Prodigal Son Returns
Cubs - 1 Reds - 3
Greg Maddux pitched his first game back in a Cub's uniform tonight. He did not look sharp at all. He was wild and did not get ahead in the count very often. However, his final line was not all that bad. He gave the Cubs six innings, and only gave up 4 hits walking 2. The costly hits being the HR's by Dunn and Griffey. Paul Wilson on the otherhand looked like Cy Young on the mound. The Cubs couldn't seem to touch him or the rest of the Red's staff. It's hard to break down a loss, but I going to do the best I can.
Bako "threw out" a runner in the 1st (We caught a break)
Lee made a nice scoop on a Ramirez throw in the 2nd (He's gonna really help save some errors)
Grudzielanek makes a great throw to the plate in the 5th to keep the score at 3-0
Mike Wuertz got the Reds 1-2-3 in the 7th for another good outing out of the pen
Andy Pratt looked sharp in the 8th (who needs Jaun Cruz?)
Derrek Lee gets on the HR board for the Cubbies (Welcome to the Cubs Derrek)
Patterson swung at the first pitch he saw in the 1st
Cubs left Ramirez in scoring position in the 2nd
2 long HR's against Maddux
Corey Patterson gets thrown out trying to steal after leading off with a single, down 3 runs and the heart of the order up.
Maddux did not have good control throughout the game
Sammy strikes out with 2 on and 2 outs in the 8th.
Maddux hit 2 batters in one inning for the first time in his career in the 1st
Santo said that Griffey had only played in 40 games in the last 3 years.
My player of the game today is Derrek Lee. He had the Cubs lone RBI and hit his first homer of the season. Here's hoping tomorrow will bring a better result.
